And while we often think of the body and mind as being separate, what affects one, affects the other.  In fact, it’s now becoming clear that physiologically, there is no separation between the two, and so developing practices to help with a physical issue may also help support our brains!

Let’s face it, as we age we really have only 2 choices:  

(1) Buy into the current “model” that says we will inevitably decline at an ever increasing rate until we’ve lost independence, mobility, energy, our minds, and so on – everything that makes us who we are! 

Or

(2) Refuse to accept that choice #1 is inevitable, and instead do everything we possibly can to avoid that scenario!  

No surprise, I choose #2 – are you with me?

But wait a minute - we all know what we are supposed to be doing!

We’ve all tried (many times) before, and nothing seems to stick.

What will be different this time?

And how do we make those healthy habits stick?

We’ve all set those ambitious New Year’s resolutions (lose weight, get to the gym, etc., etc.), only to have them fall away after a few weeks, or even days!  

Why is that?  

Because those resolutions often come from what we think we should be doing.

And it turns out that simply trying to think a new habit into existence, using only the logical side of our brain, and using willpower to drive our behaviour, isn't nearly enough.

Choosing a new habit to develop will be more successful if it’s something we deeply know to be important and valuable to our life.  

And how do we gain that deeper knowing?  

By listening to the wisdom of the body!

Research shows that developing practices such as mindfulness, meditation, self-care and healthy choices will go a long way to support a transition to a new you – less stressed, more resilient, better able to thrive in this ever-changing world.

We’ve all had moments where we’ve felt the wisdom of the body, whether gut feelings, or a knowing in the heart.  And we’ve often recognized that these feelings are in opposition to the logical messages from your head!

Which part of you is right?  Which part of you knows the “truth”?

Listen to Your Inner Wisdom

Research shows that developing practices such as mindfulness, meditation, self-care and healthy choices will go a long way to support a transition to a new you – less stressed, more resilient, better able to thrive in this ever-changing world.

Discover your “Why”!

In other words, ask your body what matters.  Ask who you are, and who do you want to become.  Get in touch with who you really are.  

Choosing a new habit to develop will be more successful if it’s something we deeply know to be important and valuable to our life.  

Create your True Identity 

It also turns out that your current behaviours are simply a reflection of your current identity. To change your behaviour for good, you need to start believing new things about yourself.  You need to build identity-based habits.

James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, advises us to start small!  

Start by picking a habit that doesn’t need a lot of motivation.  He states that 

“Rather than trying to do something amazing from the beginning, start small and gradually improve. Along the way, your willpower and motivation will increase, which will make it easier to stick to your habit for good.”
